Mighty Mouse is not so mighty

Apple makes some very good products for consumers such as the iMac and the MacBook et cetra but then some of their products are not so good. One product in particular is the Mighty Mouse. I have had the opportunity here at work to use one exclusively and I really can’t stand the thing.

Mighty MouseNow I know some people love this mouse and sing it’s praises until the cows come home, but I just can’t do it. It doesn’t do me any good what so ever. Actually it has be counter productive in some aspects. First off being that it has 5 buttons the buttons on the sides just seem to get in the way. Especiall when I am trying to drag and drop and then all of a sudden Expose is launched and file I was dragging was dropped in a browser window or something. Not cool. Secondly the little mouse wheel or “nipple” as it is so prouldy called is not very responsive especially when scrolling in certain applications like Adobe Photoshop for instance. The downward scrolling is very jumpy in most internet browsers as well. For the kind of work I do this is just not acceptable. The most annoying thing however, at least for me, is the fact the touch sensitive right click ability of this mighty pos is not that great. It makes random right clicks when all I want to do is have a left click. So when I’m trying to actually left click on an icon to open a file or run a program, it will actually right click and bring up a context menu and that just irritates the crap out of me. Don’t get me wrong, there are some good points about the mouse. It looks pretty, it is pretty configurable and it has a nice little embossed Apple logo on it. I don’t know about the wireless version that just recently released, but I can’t imagine that one would be any better. I’ll just stick with my Logitech mice thank you very much.
